IIT Madras invites applications for Research Associate (RA-I) position

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY MADRAS invites a highly motivated and talented individual to join as the Research Associate (RA)-I position purely on a contract basisThis opportunity is part of a DRDO-funded project focused on developing high-temperature shape memory alloys. This project is a joint collaborative effort between IIT Madras, IISc, and NAL Bengaluru.

Position:  Research Associate (RA)-I

Coordinator: Dr. Rohit Batra, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Eng., IIT Madras.

Funding Agency: DRDO

Project Summary: This project aims to combine first-principles density functional theory (DFT) with machine learning (ML) techniques to identify alloy compositions that can show a high-temperature shape memory effect with low hysteresis. The identified alloys will be synthesized and characterized in IISc for validation. Further, NAL will work on optimizing the alloy processing conditions for large-scale production as per the guidance from the DFT and ML methods.

Tenure of Project:  Initially for 6 months, later extendable based on the performance

Essential Qualifications: Ph.D.

Desirable: Degree in the following fields: Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering.

Preferrable: Background in quantum mechanical computations (DFT) for alloys, and ceramics. Understanding of phase transformations, austenite–martensite relations, twins, and defects in materials.

Fellowship:

  • Rs. 58000 + HRA (as applicable)
